VACATION!

Since we've not had the opportunity for a vacation in a while, I've been thinking of what sort of vacation I'd like if we could plan one.

I'm interested in your reflections on the subject!

One of the best I remember was in 1997. The three kids and I had only ONE DAY to spare, and we headed to the ocean. We visited two different beaches, and had dinner at a surfer joint. Ask any of the kids; we all agreed that one day *miraculously* stretched to feel like a week. We thoroughly enjoyed each other, the sparkling ocean and the weather- and came home so refreshed!

All for the cost of a tank of gas
(not too much $$$ in 1997) and a pizza dinner.

Yeah, that was a great day! Everything went so smoothly and we were all in the best of moods. That will always be one of my favorite vacation memories. Elizabeth, you were pretty little then. I'm actually surprised you remember it. You have a great memory!

Josh and I have agreed that our favorite vacations are the short ones. There is something motivating about being on a short vacation. You feel compelled to get up early, see lots of stuff and make the most of the time. And, you don't have time to get too tired or grumpy because it only lasts for a few days. Traveling can be exhausting, but when you know you only have a few days, it inspires you to not worry so much about how tired you are. Plus, you don't have to pack as much =) Our favorite trips have been our 3 day tour of the Dominican Republic and our 4 day trip to India.

I think the key to a good vacation is the relationships. If everyone is in a good mood and is looking out for everyone else, then it doesn't matter so much WHERE you are or WHAT you're doing.

Go for a drive through Yosemite, over Tioga pass, and down through Lee Vinning, the June Lakes Loop, Convict Lake, Mammoth and Bishop area. The Aspen trees will soon be starting to change and it will be absolutely lovely. Pajaro Dunes will also always be a fabulous relaxing stay at the beach.

Right now I would say my favorite vacation would be to see my new niece Audrey, since I have not met her.(and of cource the rest of the fam as well)

My fav. vacation spot that doesn't include extended family would be our timeshare in Maui!!! I love the local vibe there. It is so relaxing.

HELLOOOOO!! What about Minnesota? It's beautiful. You could relax. Meet your new neice, Hanna. And see ME! (Dave and the rest of us too, of course.) So when should I have your room ready?
